Ways to Give

Why APF?

Recipient Spotlight

APF disburses over $1 million annually to more than 200 recipients. These incredible psychologists and graduate students represent cutting edge research in the field of psychology. Keep an eye on our homepage for highlights of recent recipients, and stay tuned for more in-depth profiles on program recipients in the APF blog.

Leave a Legacy

The APF Legacy Club honors individuals who have generously remembered APF in their estate planning. The investment of these dedicated partners ensures APF can continue to impact the future of psychology through vital funding and support for the next generation of academics and clinicians.

There are a variety of ways to include APF in your legacy planning and we are happy to work with you to fulfill your wishes.

Start a Fund

Donors with an interest in a particular topic area may choose to establish a restricted fund with APF. Restricted donations have a minimum donation amount and require a formal agreement outlining the purpose, administration, and management of the fund. The Board of Trustees has sole fiduciary responsibility for all APF funds.

Giving Through Your IRA

Individuals who are 70½ or older can transfer up to $100,000 per year from individual retirement accounts (IRA) directly to charitable organizations without having to pay tax on the distribution. Your gift can satisfy the required minimum distribution for the year.

To include APF as a beneficiary of your retirement, IRA, or life insurance policy please follow these three easy steps:

  1. Contact your retirement plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution for a change-of-beneficiary form. Decide what percentage (1 to 100) you would like us to receive and name us, along with the percentage you chose, on the beneficiary form. Include APF’s federal tax ID: 52-6051733
  2. Return the completed form to your plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution (in many cases, you can change the form online 24/7).
  3. Notify APF via email at foundation@apa.org.

Stock Gifts

Contributing long-term appreciated securities can help you achieve your philanthropic goals and often can provide special tax savings. In addition to receiving a tax deduction for the gift, the current value of the securities can be deducted regardless of how much they have appreciated, and there is no capital gains tax on the profit.

Ask your custodian/brokerage firm to transfer shares from your account to APF using the DTC system. Your broker must include their DTC number along with the request.

Agent Bank: Merrill Lynch
Agent Bank DTC number: 8862
Account number: 5TL-31212
Account Name: The American Psychological Foundation

Please make sure to notify APF of your gift (stock and number of shares) by emailing Shalonta Bowman PRIOR to the transfer.
